★★★★★ Great tool. I didn't know what I was missing before I bought a 12" miter saw. The Dewalt 780 is well made and very accurate but also quick to change from cut to cut.My saw needed some tweaking on the pre-set stops but that was an easy thing to do. After that it was ready to go. The fit and finish of everything was good. The slides are a little rough at first but seem to wear in over a little bit of time. That was a concern at first and other reviews mention it as well but it doesn't seem to be a problem now.The sawdust bag works okay but has very limited capacity.The shadow light also works very well. Mine is slightly off (maybe .005) but after using it for a while it's easy to compensate. It's a great feature. I haven't looked at the manual to see it that's adjustable but it's only off by something like the width of a sharp pencil line and once you've adjusted yourself to that you can split a pencil line.The motor torque is surprisingly strong at start up. A soft start would have been better but, again, it's a very minor issue on a great saw.Purists and professionals may not love this as much as me but it's fast, easy and accurate for my needs. My radial arm saw hasn't even been turned on since I got this 780.I also bought the Dewalt stand. It works great too. The work support adjustments require some tweaking to get perfect when there's a need to change them but it's easy enough. If you have a jamb level it's REALLY easy. The extension arms work well on long material and stay pretty level even when extended way out. I've added this mini review because it's such a good companion piece with the saw.If this was lost or stolen I'd order a new one immediately. It's just incredibly fast to work with; it's easy to change the setups and the cuts are very nice.I did buy a better blade for trim work but the stock blade works fine for less delicate pieces.

I will try to briefly highlight both.The positives are; the saw is very accurate and it has a huge capacity. The dust collection is the best I have used. My Festool dust extractor attaches to the saw perfectly without an adapter. The vacuum picks up almost all the fine dust. There is some larger dust particles that collect behind the saw but the dust doesn't seem to drift through out the house. The LED light is wonderful. It is accurate, it doesn't need to be calibrated when you change blades and it provides enough illumination to clearly see my cut mark in a poorly lit room or garage. Pretty much every one who has seen the saw has been impressed with the light. It is a big plus. All the saws adjustments are fast and easy, the scales are big so they are easy to see and easy to set, even to quarters of a degree.The negatives are; the saw is BIG! To be fair that is also the reason I bought the saw in the first place. The saw needs to be set up several feet away from the wall to get full travel. The dust bag adds quite a bit of depth to the saw requiring you to move it even further from the wall. It would be hard to use this saw in a hallway. This saw would really benefit from a soft start motor. The motor has enough "kick" when both starting and stopping the motor that the blade jumps up to an inch. I ruined several work pieces the first few days I used this saw until I got used to how much the blade moves on start up and stopping.I am a professional trim carpenter, sometimes I set my tools up for a month at a job and other times only for a few hours. I have decided to not carry this saw in my van every day, it takes up too much room and is too heavy to carry, if my trustily old 8 1/2" miter saw will do the job. If i am going to be set up for a few days, am doing crown molding or need to set up inside a house and use dust collection this is the saw I bring to the job. The saw is good enough that if I could only have one saw, this is the one I would choose. All things considered, I really like this saw and would recommend it to anyone who has enough room for it.

★★★★★ A Wise choice. I was very hesitant to order the Bosch chop saw. I presently have the Dewalt 12" sliding saw. I have been using it on the job for over 8 years and its as good as the day I took it out of the box. I needed a chop saw for the shop and this Bosch with the linkage instead of the slides, really is a space saver. When I read all the reviews, there were so many that complained this was out, and that was out and no way to adjust. Many said its junk, it forget this saw.? That really made me nervous, but I went ahead and purchased it anyway because of the space saving feature. I got this saw about a week ago and I have to say its great. Obviously those people that wrote those bad reviews did not know much about machinery. Even if it is perfectly set up out of the box, you should take the time to go over each item and double check. This way you know its right on, and you can check for any loose bolts, and you learn and get acquainted with the saw. Yes, it was suppose to be all factory set out of the box, and it wasn't, but there are setting for everything and the manual is very well written and easy to understand. I spent about an hour going through each item and adjust every possible setting and stop. Extremely easy to set up, most all adjustments use the same size Allen wrench (that comes with the saw and stays on board the saw in its secure spot) Its very smooth with no play in the linkage. Bottom line, I was very impressed with the saw and would highly recommend it, especially for the shop setting. For the job site, I'll continue to use the Dewalt as the Bosch really is pretty heavy. 89 lbs. I think it was. You would need the rolling stand to take it on job sites, but for the shop, I welcome the extra weight as it cuts down on any vibrations. And if you will be doing finish work with this saw, you will need a good finish blade. The blade that comes with it is a good blade if you doing framing. And I cant say much about the dust collection and the bag it comes with, as I hooked mine up to the dust collector system right away

★★★★★ Best Saw I Have Ever Used. This is my second Bosch Miter saw. My first was a 3915 10" sliding compound saw. I loved that saw that I had purchased in 2005 but I really wanted an upgrade. So I sold my old saw and bought this. I think just the fact that after 11 years I purchased another Bosch, speaks for itself. Frankly, I didn't even consider any other brand because of my great experience with Bosch.I am not going to quote a bunch of facts nor statistics on why this saw is better than most. What I am going to say is that I do woodworking. All types that includes building decks, building cabinets, keepsake boxes, outdoor chairs etc. This saw more than meets all my needs in these areas. In fact the saw surpasses my original Bosch since it is bigger, bevels both sides, has a much larger fence, and has stops on the bevel. All things my excellent 10" Bosch was missing.I've been using the saw and really love the gliding mechanism. My old saw was starting to not slide as well as it did when I got it new. In fact, it started sliding exactly like other new saws from Hitachi and Dewalt I have tried at the big box store. I was surprised that they don't glide that well. I will tell you that the glide on this saw is amazing. In fact, at first I was taken aback a little since I was not anticipating how freely it would glide. But after getting used to that, I don't think I could ever go back.The saw is more than powerful even when cutting red oak or for that mater purple heart. I did have to use my precision square to ensure that the 90 degree and bevel were correct. The bevel was but the 90 degree cut has to be very slightly corrected. That of course was every easy, loosen 4 screws with the allen wrench included straight it, and tighten the screws. Easy!Anybody who needs a precision, super quality saw won't go wrong purchasing this saw. It is awesome. Of course, I did have to replace the blade immediately since I was cutting some wood for a cabinet and needed a nice smooth cross cuts. But I'm keeping the blade that came with the saw for other future projects.

I am not a miter saw expert by any means, and have very limited experience using them, but this Bosch miter saw is really phenomenal, it has every feature I can think of on it, it looks amazing when you put it together, and it runs so smooth. The machine does not make that much noise when it runs and cuts through material with zero effort, the cuts are also really smooth with the included 60 tooth saw (although I did buy a 80 tooth one) but there are no chips on the wood and really smooth edge. I use the clamp it came with to tighten down any wood I'm working with so it doesn't move but I'm still really impressed by the quality of the cuts. If you have a woodworking hobby and need to make sure pieces are square this is really a great saw for that. I also get the sense it's built really high quality and will probably last a lifetime.

★★★★★ Saw time. I just boght this saw and set it up this weekend. I read a lot before purchasing this and have several comments based on what I read from the other saw reviews. Overall I wouls say this is a great saw, noting that I only used it for one weekend. I did have to make some adjustments to get it to cut the way I wanted it to, but the adjustments went quickly and smoothly with no noticeable problems. I carefully inspected the say and found no noticeable problems out of the box. The saw cuts great and I love the soft start motor. I have an old makita that I am giving to my son.Angle seem easy to adjust except for the turntable part is a little hard to move but it may be that it just needs to be broken in with time. Just be aware that the sawdust collection is not really that effective. I think maybe 50 percent or less actually goes into the bag. Very happy with this saw at this point, definately worth 100 dollars less than the LS1016L which I was going to buy.

★★★★★ Makita LS1018. Excellent saw. Mine was very accurate right out of the box, but it's a good idea to check your angles if you're gonna be doing finish work. I've been using this mostly for furniture and planters. I used it for some deck work, and a bit of finish work as well, and it performed perfectly. Plenty of power. Very smooth slide. The slow start up took some getting used to, but that's just because I'm used to working with a very old saw. Electric brake works very well, and the handle give you a nice grip. The guides on the side are ok, but I still prefer the blocks of wood that I've been using for years. The clamp that is included also works very well for keeping your fingers away from the blade on tricky cuts. The blade that they include is decent, but I'd get something nicer if you're doing anything other than rough cuts. All in all I'm extremely satisfied, Makita has yet to disappoint me.

★★★☆☆ Great saw, poor manual, poor parts support. While I'm a fair mechanic, I'm a lousy carpenter. I've never been able to make perfectly square cuts using a circular saw, but with this miter saw I get professional results despite my amateur status. I do agree with those who complain about the dust collection capability of this saw; it's not very good, but if you use mostly outdoors for projects like decks, this may not be a big issue for you. (A tradesman doing interior work in the homes of clients may hold a different opinion.) The one-star demerit is attributed to the instruction booklet, which is poorly executed in almost all respects. Diagrams illustrating various features of this saw are about the size of postage stamps and the entire manual should be have been printed on 8.5 X 11 stock. And nowhere in this document will you find a parts diagram so that you can easily identify parts referenced in the instructions. (Diagram is available on the ereplacementparts.com site.) Fortunately, the user can figure out most of the adjustments and specific uses of this saw without consulting the manual. But in light of the inherent product liability exposure, you would think that Makita would have devoted a bit more time and expense in producing a very well illustrated and professional user manual. One problem I had to deal with on the day I received the saw was an over-torqued turntable bolt. I was unable to adjust the miter angle off the 90 degree setting and received no guidance whatsoever from the manual. I did find the 17mm lock-nut under the saw and was able to loosen it slightly, but I still don't know what the correct torque is. Likewise, the shaft controlling bevel angle had been over-torqued at the factory and was impossible to dislodge using the handle at the rear of the saw. Again, a 17mm open end wrench is needed to loosen.08-19-19 Edit. So I've owned this saw for about 5 years and have completed several DIY projects with good results. But I made a poor storage choice along the way and managed to collect some rust on the sliding bars - part# JM23100080. While I was able to clean up the bars somewhat, I'd rather replace. But, after an exhaustive search online, I find that this part is no longer available! Ridiculous! It's a critical part and it appears that the saw is still in production. (I find it for sale on several sites.) Very poor support from Makita and an additional star removed from my original rating.
